Steve Irwin was in our living room four or five times a week, wrestling crocodiles and cuddling with apes and chasing lizards through the Outback. Both of my girls loved watching him. His energy and enthusiasm and, let's face it, downright nuttiness, appealed to them. He was a good teacher and he was good, clean television. That's not easy to find - heck, Cartoon Network is off limits for my 7 year old most of the time.
I cried this weekend when I heard he'd died. I cried even harder when I found out he died while filming a segment for his daughter's television show on the Discovery Kids channel. Steve Irwin taught my kids about animals and entertained them at the same time. We'll miss him.
